Glider: one app family for uploading files to Dropbox

Glider sends files to your Dropbox. Drop them on a Mac, share them from an Android phone, or pick them on an iPhone or iPad. Every edition uploads to the same place: Apps › GliderApp in your Dropbox. Glider keeps to that folder and can't see the rest of your Dropbox.

Mac: Full or Lite?

Glider Full and Glider Lite do the same job on the Mac, and share most of their code. They differ because of how each is distributed. Lite runs in the Mac App Store sandbox, which can't delete files from folders you haven't opened.

Difference Glider Full Glider Lite
Where to get it Direct download, notarized by Apple Mac App Store
Updates Checks for updates itself, automatically or on request The App Store installs updates
Moving files Copy, move, ask or upload only, for each account and each way of dropping Copy, ask or upload only. Files are always copied, never moved. A saved "Move" setting becomes Copy.
Choosing a Glider folder Chosen in the app Picked with the folder picker. A folder set up in Full doesn't carry over, so choose it again.
Files dropped on Glider No restriction: uploads run as usual Available while Glider is running. A queued upload of a dropped file may fail if you quit and relaunch before it finishes. Files inside a Glider folder aren't affected.
Accounts and settings Its own Its own, separate from Full. Sign in to Dropbox again in Lite.

Both can be installed at the same time, but they share nothing: no settings, accounts or saved sign-ins.

Shared by both Mac editions

  • Drop anywhere The Dock icon, the menu-bar bird, the drop zone that appears as you drag, or Finder's Services menu.
  • A Glider folder One per account, marked with the Glider icon, and two-way sync with Dropbox.
  • Several accounts Personal and work Dropbox side by side, each with its own folder.
  • Safe by default Same-name files ask first, edits on both sides keep both versions, and big deletions wait for a yes.
  • Large files Uploads in pieces, checked end to end.
  • Private No servers, no ads. Files go straight between your Mac and your Dropbox. Crash reports and usage statistics never include your files, file names or Dropbox paths.

Glider works with Dropbox through the Dropbox API. It is not made by or affiliated with Dropbox.
