Otter is a private browser for finding and saving videos from web pages. It blocks many ads and
trackers, can lock itself behind a PIN, and can encrypt the files you download.
Coming soon to Google Play.
Features
- Find videos Detects MP4 and HLS videos on the pages you open. Downloads resume after a pause or a dropped connection, and you can play them inside the app.
- Less tracking Blocks many ads and trackers, in pages and in requests. Tabs, history and bookmarks stay in the app's private storage.
- Clear on exit Optionally wipe browsing data each time you close the app.
- App lock An optional PIN, asked again after the app has been in the background for a set time. Only a salted hash of the PIN is stored, never the PIN itself.
- Private downloads Downloads get a .nomedia file, so gallery and photo apps skip them. An optional private folder and optional on-disk encryption (AES-256) are available. Encrypted files can be unlocked by this phone, or by a password you choose.
- Automatic backup Your settings, bookmarks and history are backed up to the Download/Otter folder, and the last 7 days are kept. The PIN and encryption keys are never part of the backup.
What Otter does not do
- No account You don't sign up or sign in to use Otter.
- No ads or analytics The app has no ads SDK and no analytics.
- Crash reports Crash reports go to Firebase Crashlytics. The privacy policy explains what they contain.
Otter is for videos you have the right to save. You are responsible for how you use downloaded files.
